Must Do And Preparation
The following are general advisories you should note in preparation for your screening:
(Note: Some advisories may not be applicable).
1. FASTING
• Fasting for at least 8 hours is required before your health screening appointment.
• Please refrain from consuming food starting from 12 midnight on the day before your appointment.
• Drinking of plain water is permissible.
• Fasting is required specifically for your (1) blood test; and (2) ultrasound abdomen. Light breakfast is provided after your fasting tests are completed.
3. FOR LADIES
• For ladies - Pap smear, urine and stool tests should be done 5 days after the last day of menstruation.
• If you are menstruating on the day of your appointment, please inform the nurses on arrival. You will not be able to
do your urine, stool and Pap smear tests because the presence of blood in these tests would produce inaccurate
results. The Pap smear test can be arranged to be done on the day of your review.
4. ULTRASOUND PELVIS SCAN
• Before undergoing a pelvic ultrasound, you will be required to drink at least 5 to 6 glasses of water and
to avoid urinating for about one hour prior to the examination time. This is because a full bladder is
required for a convenient path to be formed, known as the acoustic window, for the ultrasonic waves.
5. ULTRASOUND ABDOMEN SCAN
• Please remain fasted until this test is completed.
6. MAMMOGRAM
• Do not wear any deodorant, perfume, powder or cream under your arms or chest area
as it may interfere with the quality of the mammogram.
7. MAMMOGRAM FILMS
• Please bring along your most recent mammogram films (if available) should you wish to have a comparison
made between that and the latest received result.
• If you have forgotten to bring your most recent mammogram films on the day of your screening and wish to
have a comparison done, you should submit your most recent films 3 working days from the day of your
screening to our Radiology Department. You should also receive a form from the HealthScreeners
department to accompany your films.
8. TREADMILL
• This test will take 20 to 30 minutes to complete.
• Prior to this test (after your blood test and ultrasound abdomen), you may have a light and easily digestible breakfast.
• Medications such as betablockers (e.g. propranolol or atenolol) should preferably be stopped 3 days before
the test. If you are unsure of the medication you are taking, please speak to the doctor prior to performing the
cardiac assessment.
• Please bring along your running gear (i.e. T-shirt, shorts and running shoes).
• For your comfort, please empty your bladder before the test.
